We spent part of the summer in Paris and Normandy! I love making these travel videos. When I look back at them it feels like I'm stepping into these places all over again. This one is extra special because for the first time Charlie shot some of the video footage. I loved seeing things through his eyes too. 😍

This was a fun one! I'm headed into busy season with 5 weddings in the next 4 weeks. I love how every wedding painting comes out different. I never truly know what it's going to look like until it happens.

First day of school has me like

This year, I had my appendix out and painted a wedding two weeks later! (Thank you, modern medicine). After working with an absolutely wonderful bride and making a painting I loved at the nicest venue, I received the cherry on top in the form of a review from my bride.

"Absolutely loved the finished painting. It encapsulates our wedding perfectly. Kate did a great job including the beautiful scenery. Guests at the wedding loved interacting with her and watching the painting come to life!"

Thank you for being a dream bride, Bailey! ❤️

I have found myself thinking about how much I love my life a lot recently. I've worked so hard to follow my dream in life, and I AM LIVING IT! So yes, when I'm asked to drive to the top of a mountain to paint a ceremony in front of the beautiful rolling hills and include a few of the cutest dogs, I couldn't be more excited.

What's your strategy for ups and down when it comes to your creative energy? I have two strategies.

1. If I'm feeling very motivated to do something, that's what I do. I create my best work when I enjoy it, and I'm a firm believer that motivation affects the quality of your work. That usually means my timelines are vague and I make decisions about what I'm going to check off my to do list day by day.

2. If I'm dreading something or feel like something is a little overwhelming, it's what I do first. I can't let something that challenges me rule my creative process. I might fumble around while I'm figuring things out, but I always feel better after having tried. Sometimes I'm still not happy, but have a more clear idea of what I need to do. Sometimes I figure it out right away and it's not as bad as I thought it would be.

It took me years to figure out what works for me and I often share my strategies with others because maybe something that works for me will also work for someone else.

There are so many little steps that no one sees an artist do. From emails to varnishing, wiring, and photographing the little things can sometimes mean an entire day spent in the studio without picking up the brush. Anyone who has ever tried to photograph art knows the conditions have to be absolutely perfect. Today, that meant moving the painting around 20 times and taking photos until finally I landed on the best spot, which just so happened to be the doorway into the studio. As you can see, my assistants are not complaining.
